If you are enthusiastic about leveraging your data expertise to make a positive impact on nature conservation, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity at the Wildlife Trust. Join us in creating a movement that recognises and values individual differences and identities.

The Wildlife Trusts are looking for a data analyst to support the build, development and improvement of our new data management solution. This data facility includes spatial data from an ArcGIS Geoportal, personal data from a CRM hub, data from new volunteer management and campaign management tools, business critical systems and open sources of data. The data analyst will work across the federation of 47 different charities to produce new data products and to build and improve the data management solution.

Work to protect and restore nature must be based on evidence - everything from geospatial boundaries to species populations to carbon sequestration data. Data on people who campaign with us or become members or volunteers is also crucial in order to understand people’s motivations and inspire them to go even further for nature. Wildlife, people, and nature restoration work doesn’t stay within administrative boundaries, yet our data currently does.

The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT) and the 46 individual Wildlife Trusts have disparate data sources, but no overall data management approach, and no data infrastructure such as a data warehouse or lake. Challenges exist with co-ordinating data management and information-sharing between individual charities exist as well as working with different systems in place across The Wildlife Trusts. The different contexts across the individual Trusts also present a challenge, they vary significantly in income, staff resource and data maturity. In addition to improving the technology and data itself, it is equally essential to establish the right culture and processes for using data effectively and in a way that is compliant with legislation and best practice.

We are seeking to purchase and implement a new cloud-based data management platform and we require help from a Data Analyst to support its delivery and implementation.

Who we are:

We are a grassroots movement of 46 independent Wildlife Trusts, supported by a central charity, The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. We have more than 900,000 members, 35,000 volunteers and 3,000 staff across the UK. We are at an exciting moment in our 110-year history, with an ambitious new strategy setting out a vision of nature in recovery, with abundant, diverse wildlife and natural processes creating wilder landscapes where people and nature thrive.

Data Analyst – JD August 2023 The next 10 years will be critical in determining what kind of world we will all live in. We need to urgently reverse the loss of wildlife and put nature into recovery at scale if we are to prevent climate and ecological disaster. This will require big, bold changes in the way we think and operate, and the development of a strong, collaborative culture. It will require an increase in collaboration and working together, underpinned by strong systems and data.

About you:

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Data Analyst who is eager to contribute to the protection and restoration of nature through effective data management and analysis. As the ideal candidate, you have a strong background in data analysis and management, with experience working with diverse datasets and a range of data sources.

You are comfortable working with relational databases and possess strong SQL skills. Your experience with data integration and ETL processes allows you to efficiently handle data flows and ensure data accuracy and completeness. If you have prior exposure to GIS data and spatial databases, especially with ESRI ArcGIS Geoportal, it would be an added advantage.

Some familiarity with CRM systems and data management solutions, particularly Access Charity CRM, will enable you to navigate our existing infrastructure effectively. You are adept at working with open-source data and APIs, allowing you to incorporate new and diverse data sources into our data management solution.

Your analytical mindset, coupled with your ability to work with large datasets, empowers you to extract meaningful insights and present them through intuitive dashboards and reports. You have excellent communication skills, enabling you to collaborate with stakeholders across our federation of charities and understand their diverse data needs.
